The Washington Ballet Welcomes

Andres Estevez as Rehearsal Director

The Washington Ballet is pleased to announce that Andres Estevez has accepted the position of Rehearsal Director for the company. Andres brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent the last six years as Company Rehearsal Director for BalletMet following a brilliant dance career with the company beginning in 2009. Andres looks forward to joining Artistic Director, Edwaard Liang, and the rest of the artistic team.

"Being able to join The Washington Ballet is an extraordinary achievement in my career as rehearsal director to continue helping Dancers to achieve their artistic and performance heights, bringing quality to the productions in the Capital of the United States and beyond, also the excitement of continuing working and staging ballets under the Artistic Direction of Edwaard Liang,"

Andres began his professional dance career in Havana, Cuba, where he trained and joined Ballet Nacional de Cuba under the esteemed Alicia Alonso. After several successful seasons, he moved to Ballet Clasico de la Havana under the direction of Laura Alonso, where his career flourished, leading him to become a principal dancer. In 1996, Andres joined The Miami City Ballet as a soloist. He then became a Principal Dancer in 1998 at Orlando Ballet directed by Fernando Bujones before moving to BalletMet. His extensive career also includes tours and galas in several countries, and he has been recognized with silver and bronze medals in The Alicia Alonso competition in Cuba. Andres has performed in numerous Balanchine choreographies, such as Stars and Stripes, Scotch Symphony, and Allegro Brilliante. He has also showcased the works of renowned choreographers like Twyla Tharp, Robert North, Val Caniparoli, and Lila York.

We look forward to Andres' leadership as he contributes to the growth and excellence of The Washington Ballet. Please join us in welcoming him to our artistic family!

Respectfully,

Edwaard Liang
